Three Unions Unite to Create Largest RN Union in the Country
The California Nurses Association, Massachusetts Nurses Union, and United American Nurses have come together to form National Nurses United, the largest professional union for registered nurses in the country. The nurses are in favor of a national or single-payer healthcare system. With its 150,000 members, it will try to extend the California patient ratio law into other states and push for a stronger voice in the healthcare overhaul process. Many question whether this new union was developed to add to their membership and maintain job security. Many also fear that this merger could also increase the cost of healthcare if they try to negotiate higher salaries.
