H1N1: 81 Healthcare Workers with Virus
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that at least 81 U.S. healthcare workers have contracted the H1N1 influenza virus. Around half of the healthcare workers caught the virus on the job. Hospitals and workers may need to take more preventive measures, such as vaccinating healthcare workers who have been exposed to the virus, in order to help the transmittal of the virus to patients. In addition, special attention should be brought to hand hygiene, wearing masks, and isolating patients. Worldwide, there have been nearly 40,000 confirmed cases in 88 countries, with 167 deaths.
