Tanning Tax Added, Plastic Surgery Tax Pulled
If the Senate's health care bill is approved this Christmas eve, cosmetic surgery would be tax-free. The push for a 5% tax on elective cosmetic surgery was pulled and a tanning bed tax was put in its place. Special interest groups had launched a website and Facebook page to stop the cosmetic surgery tax, and they can now breathe a sigh of relief to know that it has been dropped. The switch to 5% tanning tax has left indoor tanning salons feeling burned. The Joint Committee on Taxation estimates this new tax would raise $2.7 billion over 10 years.
