Democratic Victory Brings Them One-Step Closer to Health Care Reform
President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats had major victory with a middle-of-the-night vote putting them in reach of passing legislation extending health coverage to nearly all Americans. 60 votes were needed. The next vote is expected Tuesday morning, and the Senate is on track to have their final vote on Christmas eve. The American Medical Association has announced its support for the rejuvenated bill. The bills cost around $1 trillion over 10 years and is paid for by a combination of tax and fee increases and cuts in projected Medicare spending. Denying people coverage due to pre-existing conditions would be banned and young adults could have longer coverage under their parent's insurance plans.
