Japan's Teddy Bear Robot Nurse Created to Move Patients
A robot nurse, designed to favor the likes of a giant teddy bear, has been created by Japanese researchers to help lift elderly patients from their wheelchairs to beds. The robot is called Riba, which stands for Robot for Interactive Body Assistance, and can move a patient that weighs up to 134 pounds. It was designed to look like a teddy bear with a cute face so that the 400-pound robot would appear less imposing. It has foam-padded paws and can recognize faces and voices and respond to voice commands. This robot will also help with the shrinking workforce due to Japan having one of the world's most rapidly changing populations.
