The Future of Palm-Scanning in Hospitals
Carolinas Healthcare System has been implementing a palm-scanning patient identification system for the past two years and has had positive results. With few technology problems, the system has been able to help physicians successfully identify patients who are unconscious or disoriented and also nonintrusively and accurately identifies patients for appointments. However, some patients are concerned with identity theft and were not very happy when they were not given the option to not use it. PalmSecure is a hand scanner that reads people's unique vein patterns and translates them into numeric identification codes.
