H1N1 Vaccine Made in Europe
A swine flu vaccine was developed in Marburg, German at the Novartis plant. The vaccine was made in a cell culture as opposed to growing it in eggs. The large scale production of this vaccine will use a "reassortant seed" virus, which grows rapidly in hen's eggs, and is traditionally how flu vaccines are created. The vaccine available now uses the wild type strain of H1N1. This can not be distributed to everyone world-wide, but Novartis decided to use it first because they received this form earlier. They proved that making a vaccine is possible and they will begin making one from the seed virus.
