FSU Nursing Program Violates Rules, Put on Warning Status
Fayetteville State University's nursing program has been put on warning status due to violating multiple state rules. These rules included failing to fix inconsistencies in course descriptions, failing to enforce its own admission policies by allowing students without the required prerequisites into the program, and failing to submit required information for three of the instructors before they had started teaching. These violations were brought to the state board's attention when 24 of 31 students failed to graduate in May.
For the next three years, the state board will be reviewing FSU's compliance. Annual audits of nursing students to ensure the compliance with admission policies will be required. In addition, the university must submit documents within one week before the start of each school semester and written documentation stating that it is accurate.
To help improve the school, FSU has announced that they will be hiring two temporary nurse educators as consultants. They will also be groundbreaking a $10 million nursing building which will be named the Southeastern North Carolina Nursing Education and Research Center.
