Lack of Faculty Causes Nursing Schools to Turn Down Applications
Lack of faculty members continues to become a problem throughout the nation. One direct effect of this is the number of qualified applicants turned down by nursing schools. There are 7.9% of faculty positions open at most nursing schools. To help cope with this increasing problem, schools have created programs hoping to help increase the number of faculty members with the help of the federal government and hospitals. In addition, 190 programs are also in the works. Fast track programs are also being offered, which reduce the time to earn a doctorate by a year. For 2005 alone, nursing schools nationwide turned down 41,000 qualified applicants. This number rejected 8,000 more applicants than the previous year.
