Brunswick County Behind State Guideline for School Nurses
Brunswick County is behind the state guidelines in regards to its school nurses. While the guidelines are recommended that one nurse per 750 students, there currently is only one nurse per 1,167 students. A bill requesting schools to meet the state guidelines by the 2011-2012 school year is being considered. The state would gradually increase the funding for nurses in order to meet the proper ratio, and if funding is made available, Brunswick County could see five new nurses working within the school district. Funding would begin this summer. There are 10 nurses that cover 17 schools in Brunswick County, and the biggest need is in regards to the distribution of medicine.
