Study Links Sugary Soft Drinks to Pancreatic Cancer
Soft drink lovers be cautioned: according to a study of 60,000 people in Singapore, people who drink two or more sweetened soft drinks a week have a 87 percent higher risk of pancreatic cancer. High levels of sugar in soft drinks cause the level of insulin to rise in the body; however, it is more likely thought that the cause of a higher risk is due to the fact that people who drink sweetened sodas regularly have other unhealthy habits. Other past studies have found that pancreatic cancer may be linked to red meat and burned or charred meat. Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer, and the American Cancer Society reports that the survival rate is about 5 percent.
