Language Access Education Effort
The Joint Commission and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights have released a video a video to help with the racial, ethnic, and language differences existing in the health care field. Effective communication is a vital part of providing safe, quality patient care. The video, titled "Improving Patient-Provider Communication,” explains why particular attention should be paid to Federal civil rights standards and The Joint Commission’s accreditation standards pertaining to effective communication and language access and discusses the obligations of health care organizations with the translation of written documents.
