World Health Organization Issues New HIV Treatment Guidance
The World Health Organization now states that people infected with HIV should start treatment earlier than currently recommended. It is now recommended that AIDS drugs be given a year or two earlier than the previous recommendations. This new recommendation would nearly double the amount of people worldwide who would qualify for such treatment and cause an even loger waiting list for AIDS drugs. Pregnant women are recommended to take the drugs earlier and while breast-feeding. The new advice comes from studies that have shown that people with HIV who start drugs earlier than recommended have a higher survival rate.
