Obama's 2011 Budget for Global-Health Funding
In the fiscal 2011 budget, the Obama administration has proposed a 9% increase in funding for global health needs. Such needs include fighting against preventable diseases and reducing deaths among women and children. The budget request totals $9.6 billion, while the fiscal budget for 2010 was $8.8 billion. Other goals include more treatment for HIV/AIDS and reducing malaria. It also includes the elimination or partial elimination of leprosy, lymphatic filariasis, and onchocersiasis - all which are neglected tropical diseases. In order to strengthen health systems, they are aiming to integrate health efforts, which they feel is key in order to achieve such goals.
