Medical Marijuana Legalized in 13 States
Drug enforcement officials can no longer prosecute people using, prescribing, or distributing marijuana as long as they are in compliance with state law. There are now 13 states where medical marijuana is legal: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. This move is in hopes to encourage more doctors to consider prescribing marijuana in these states and have more patients to try the drug.

Marijuana has been prescribed for chronic pain, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. The drug has also being claimed to help patients with MS and Lou Gehrig's disease. There is the concern of long term risks of using marijuana; however, it does not seem to be a toxic agent and there is little evidence that marijuana is harmful to the lungs or harmful to the body.
