Discovery of New Genes Create Potential in Treating Head and Neck Cancer
Researchers have identified 231 potential new genes associated with head and neck cancer. As a result, there is now the potential to discover the diagnosis and treatment of one of the most deadly types of cancer, as well as the opportunity to monitor the progression of the disease and the patient's response to treatment. Around 39,000 Americans develop head and neck cancer each year, and it causes 2.1% of cancer deaths in the U.S. According to the Cancer Institute, around 85% of head and neck cancers have been linked to tobacco.
