Obama Addresses Health Care
Obama's speech on health care was quite and event, and the public seemed to give it a positive response. Under Obama's health care proposal, it would be mandatory by law for all Americans to have health insurance and would require businesses to either offer health care coverage to workers or to contribute to covering costs of obtaining coverage. A hardship waiver will be offered to those who cannot afford the coverage and to most small businesses. He stated that government-run health insurance would force private insurers to lower costs. Obama denied a government takeover of health insurance, stating that no one would be forced to choose it, allowing it to only be an option for those who do not have health insurance. He also stated that the health care bill will not increase the federal deficit and that savings in the existing health care system would cover most of the cost of an overhaul bill.
