High Risk of Hearing Loss in Men
A new study presented at the American Academy of Otolaryngology meeting reports that men are three times as likely to have noise-related hearing loss as women. Occupational and recreational noise exposure and service in the armed forces are likely reasons for the greater risk in men. Hearing loss depends on both the duration and loudness, and ear plugs a great method of prevention. Riding in convertibles can also cause hearing loss if you do so for several hours; however, for the most part, short trips would to minimal damage. For noise-induced hearing lost, the study found that white, non-Hispanic males were at greatest risk and married people were also at higher risk.
