H1N1: 1st Flu Pandemic in 41 Years
The World Health Organization declared a swine flu pandemic today, confirming that the new flu virus is quickly spreading around the world. As a result, drug makers will have to increase production of a vaccine. On Wednesday, WHO stated that 74 countries have officially reported 27,737 cases of influenza A(H1N1) infection, including 141 deaths. In response, the United States government has already increased the availability of flu-fighting medicines, as well as authorized $1 billion to develop a new vaccine. This is the first global flu epidemic in 41 years.
