Stroke Patients Receive No Benefit from Stockings
In 2005, the American Heart Association recommended doctors to stockings to stroke patients in addition to an anti-clotting drug, or for patients who couldn't take such drugs. However, a new study reports that special stockings that help prevent blood clots in stroke patients are not effective after all. The study involved over 2,500 stroke patients in Australia, Britain and Italy. There were no benefits at all to using the stockings. There were some disadvantages such as causing skin ulcers and blisters.
