CT Scans Overused & Raises Concern
Radiological Society of North America reported that Americans are exposed to an increasing amount of radiation from diagnostic imaging. Over half the patients received unnecessary CT scans, an advanced type of X-ray. The New England Journal of Medicine says that as many as 4 million Americans a year are exposed to high doses of radiation. The National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurement reports that Americans were exposed to seven times more radiation from diagnostic scans than in 1980. As a result, imaging equipment companies are currently working to develop low-dose CT scanners.
