Pills Treating Cancer Expect to Rise, Despite Insurance Difficulties
Using pills and capsules as cancer treatment, which accounts for less than ten percent of all cancer medicines, is expected to increase to 25 percent over the next several years. The use of pills and capsules would reduce patient visits to clinics, as well as possibly saving the health system money. However, some cancer patients end up skipping pills or stop taking them completely due to forgetfulness, side effects, or costs (pills are usually covered by prescription drug plans, and expensive cancer pills are likely to face the patient with huge co-payments or quickly exceed an annual coverage). On the other hand, some patients end up taking too many pills.
