Most of World Exposed to Biggest Cause of Preventable Death
The WHO stated in their Global Tobacco Epidemic report that smoke-free policies were crucial in order to prevent second-hand smoke. Over 94 percent of people in the world are not protected by laws against smoking. Tobacco is the biggest cause of preventable death. Over 5 million people are killed a year from tobacco, with 600,000 people are killed prematurely from second-hand smoke and many other receive other effects such as crippling and disfiguring. Less than 10 percent of the world's population is covered by measures to prevent smoking and help protect people from tobacco smoke.
