Is Nursing Board Protecting Patients?
Several complaints about a nurse who is responsible for a patient's death had been filed before the incident happened. A nurse at Delano Regional Medical Center is said to have been under the influence of drugs when he was performing CPR on a patient and fell on him. Hospital Staff claim to have complained about him to the California board of Registered nursing and they did nothing. The nurse in question, John Michael Jones, was fired from three hospitals before landing a job at Delano Regional Medical Center two months after being reported for stealing drugs from the previous hospital. While the Board of Registered Nurses is suppose to protect the patient, it can take years for a complaint to be properly investigated or for action to be taken against their nurse's license. If no action is taken, hospitals will never know about the complaint. Now nurses must all be fingerprinted and beginning this year, and they have to report any criminal record.
