Study Shows That Over Half of Nurses Are Bullied
According to a survey by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, over half the nurses in the United States have been bullied at work. Over 90 percent of the nurses stated that they had witnessed abuse behavior. The study found that when nurses are being bullied, the quality of care decreases. Bullying causes severe emotional distress, therefore, preventing the nurses from providing the most efficient health care. Some nurses have even left their careers after being traumatized by the bullying. Other problems that result from bullying include health problems such as anxiety, depression, or insomnia.
