JCAHO Offers Conference on Reducing Waste & Improving Efficiency in Health Care
The Joint Commission has recently launched a public policy initiative on Improving Efficiency and Reducing Waste in Health Care. Pursuant to this effort, an expert Roundtable panel has been convened to systemically categorize and describe opportunities for waste reduction and improved patient care, identify accountabilities for their pursuit, and frame approaches to measuring success in reducing waste in hospitals and other organized health care delivery settings. This national conference will further inform the development of a white paper on the subject that The Joint Commission will publish later this year.

This conference offers the opportunity for attendees to ready themselves for changes in practices and the payment system that will drive improved efficiency in health care. Specifically, the conference focuses on the intersection of efficiency and quality, the delivery of efficient care at the local level, and the realignment of incentives to create and sustain efficiently delivered health care.
