Joint Commission Campaign Encourges Parents to Speak Up
According to a study by the National Initiative for Children’s Health Care Quality, 1 in 15 hospitalized children are harmed by medication errors. The medication error can have severe consequences, and the Joint Commission is launching a national campaign to help parents make a difference in their children’s care. The Speak Up™ program encourages parents to speak up if you have questions or concerns and feel free to ask again if you still do not understand. The parent should learn about the illness and medicines, and they should make sure they are getting the correct treatments. There should be involvement in all the treatment decisions. Finally, be sure to make sure your hospital is meeting quality standards.
