Doctor in the Philippines Faces Numerous Struggles in His Journey to Becoming a Nurse in America
A well-known doctor in the Philippines comes to the United States to work as a nurse in order to make more money for his family. He finished at the top of his class in nursing school and later graduated as the number one young doctor in the country. However, doctors in the Philippines are not paid well. Doctors there are paid about 300 to 800 U.S. dollars a month. He could make more money being a nurse in the United States, where they make $4,000 a month. Throughout his journey, he has faced numerous struggles. Although the temperature and lifestyle of the U.S was very different from the Philippines, he said the major challenge was with his employer. He and other nurses had to stay in a dirty, small, single-story bungalow. At first, they were assigned to clerical work. Once they did receive nursing duties, they were not paid as much as promised. His journey has faced so many struggles this past year, he is considering remaining a nurse instead of pursuing his dream of being a doctor in the U.S.
