A freeze in the nursing pipeline
After 50,000 visas for foreign nurses and their families were used up, foreign nurses have decreased until Congress will be able to add more of these visas. This, along with the nursing shortage, could be a long-term problem. These foreign nurses have helped provide in senior health facilities across the U.S. One nursing home said that unless they were able to get nurses, they would have to stop the number of elderly entering into their nursing home. Shortages are predicted in the future. By 2012, they estimate that there will be 26,600 nursing job vacancies in Minnesota.
