Hospice BBQ Plate Sale Fundraiser
Hospice of Richmond County held its 22nd annual barbecue plate sale Friday at Browder Park in Rockingham. Plates cost $7 and consisted of either barbecued chicken or pork, along with cole slaw, baked beans and a roll. Tommy Deese and Crew prepared the barbecue and the Knights of Columbus cooked the chicken for the fundraiser. Hospice is a nonprofit agency governed by a board of directors. The organization is licensed by the state of North Carolina and is Medicare/Medicaid certified. Hospice accepts patients regardless of their ability to pay for services. Richmond County Hospice has been caring for the physical and emotional needs of terminally ill patients and their families since 1985. The facility, located on U.S. Hwy. 1 North in Rockingham, serves patients in Richmond and Anson County. During the past year, Hospice served 160 patients and families. Hospice Haven, consisting of six beds for those who require around-the-clock residential care, opened in Feb. 2002. It is currently in the process of expanding the facility's size to assist more patients. For information or to make donations, call 997-4464.
