Northern Dutchess Hospital holds Osteoporosis Program starting April 22
Northern Dutchess Hospital is pleased to announce a multidisciplinary, osteoporosis program for people currently living with the disease, as well as for people who want to learn more about the prevention of osteoporosis. The four week program is open to men and women and will meet weekly from Wednesday, April 22nd through May 13th in conference room 3 (by the former main lobby). Each session, which includes both discussion and exercise, runs from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, Osteoporosis is a major public health threat for an estimated 44 million Americans or 55 percent of the people 50 years of age and older. In the U.S. today, 10 million individuals (8 million are women) are estimated to already have the disease and almost 34 million more are estimated to have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for osteoporosis. While osteoporosis is often thought of as an older person's disease, it can strike at any age.
As part of the program Roufia Payman, DT, CDN, will discuss nutrition as it relates to osteoporosis on April 29th. Maureen Terranova, OB/GYN, of Rhinebeck Women's Health, will discuss osteoporosis and prescription drug intervention on May 6th. Participants will interact with a Physician, Physical Therapist, Nutritionist and Exercise Science Specialist to learn about managing and preventing the disease. The fee is $100 and registration is required by calling 845-871-3427.
Northern Dutchess Hospital, a Health Quest affiliate, is a 68-bed, acute care hospital located in Rhinebeck, NY. The Health Quest system includes Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie and Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel.
