U.S. News and World Report Names Zucker Hillside as One of Nation’s Best Psychiatric Hospitals
For the second year in a row, The Zucker Hillside Hospital has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s top psychiatric hospitals. In the magazine’s recently released “America’s Best Hospitals” issue, Zucker Hillside was ranked 19th for its expertise in psychiatry, moving up three spots from last year.

Notably, Zucker Hillside was only one of three New York hospitals to be recognized for their excellence in psychiatry. The Zucker Hillside Hospital opened with only 40 beds. Today, the facility -- licensed for 221 beds -- is recognized as a pioneer in the diagnosis, treatment and research of behavioral health disorders.

Hospital rankings were based on reputation, outcomes and such care-related factors as patient volume, nursing care, advanced technology and recognition by outside organizations. Zucker Hillside Hospital is one of only a few clinical research centers established by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) for the study of schizophrenia. This spring, scientists at The Zucker Hillside Hospital were awarded a $9.8 million NIMH grant to develop a new center to study the characteristics of people in the throes of their first episode of schizophrenia.

Zucker Hillside is part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, the nation's third-largest, non-profit, secular healthcare system. The health system consists of 15 hospitals, 17 long-term care facilities, a medical research institute, three trauma centers, five home health agencies, a hospice network and dozens of outpatient centers throughout the New York area.
