Increase of Violence in Hospitals
After a man was shot to death by a family member at Charleston Area Medical Center's Memorial Hospital, measures are being taken to screen people coming into hospitals. Hospitals are beginning to become one of the buildings that are only accessible through security checkpoints. Experts say that violence in hospitals keep increasing. Sammy Stewart was killed by his wife, Rhonda Stewart, while he was a patient in the hospital. Since this case involved a family member, it was hard to prevent. Hospital officials often don't want to get in the middle of family fights and do not know how serious they are. Usually family members are the least of a patients worries. Although CAMC does not have metal detectors like others might have, they have taken measures to improve security.
