Franklin Hospital Opens Center for Surgical Specialties
Franklin Hospital recently celebrated the opening of its Center for Surgical Specialties, a 29-bed unit that is also home to the hospital’s Institute for Orthopedic Science.
The new unit, constructed by Franklin Hospital’s engineering department, was aesthetically and functionally upgraded, including new carpeting and wood-like flooring, new furnishings, bathroom enhancements, flat-screen TVs, a modernized nursing station and a patient/family member lounge at a cost of $600,000. The unit also features an adjoining entrance to the Orzac Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation, facilitating a smooth transition of care for patients who require rehabilitative services.

The Center for Surgical Specialties also houses The Institute for Orthopedic Science, an organization formed by the North Shore-LIJ Health System to combine the orthopedic programs of each of its hospitals in order to provide state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary care to patients across the entire spectrum of musculoskeletal disorders along a continuum of care, from diagnosis to surgery to rehabilitation. The unit is designed to help patients regain mobility and return to active, independent lives.
