Goldsboro Patient Dies after Left in Chair with No Care for 22 Hours
50-year-old Steven Sabock, a mental patient at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro, ended up dying after he chocked on medication and was left sitting in a chair for about 22 hours. The workers, according to federal officials, left him without feeding him or helping him use the bathroom. The report showed that he ate nothing the day he died and had little food in the three days preceding his death. A surveillance video showed hospital workers watching television and playing cards only a few feet away. The officials have threatened to cut off the facility's funding and sent a team to help the facility draft new procedures to ensure proper care for patients. If the center rejects the report, federal funds will be cut off beginning September 1. This incident, along with several others recently occurring throughout nation, is causing officials to possibly reassign nurses to provide more patient supervision.
