Smoking Resident on Oxygen Starts Fire
Residents at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home were sent to the hospital after a fire broke out in the respiratory wing where a resident on oxygen started a fire while smoking in bed. No one knows why the staff was permitting a resident to smoke or how the resident got the cigarettes. The resident was treated for minor burns and the other residents were treated for smoke inhalation.
