NYC Nursing Shortage Higher than National Average
With the nursing profession having a shortage of about 8% or 9% nationwide, New York City has an even greater difficulty in filling positions with a shortage close to 10%. Although many Americans are worried about losing their jobs due to overseas cheap labor, those in the nursing profession can be rest assured that they will be able to find a job since nurses can't be outsourced. The nursing shortage will only continue to get worse in the future as patients and nurses age. In the next five to ten years, it is predicted that a large percentage of nurses will retire. This shortage is predicted to greatly affect oncology due to the increasing number of cancer patients.
