Nurse Rejoins Air Force; Tells Story to The Public
As a specialist in women's health care, Maj. Marcia A. Potter rejoined the Air Force at 42 years old. She enlisted in the Air Force after graduating high school and then left the military to pursue her education, earning a master's degree in nursing and becoming a nurse practitioner. Now 46 years old, Potter is the mother of three. She felt her calling when she heard that the military was searching for doctors, nurses, and other health care professions about a year after September 11, 2001. Potter rejoined the Air Force in 2003. Potter states that she was the sole family nurse practitioner providing women's health services and also treated male servicemembers and Iraqi citizens. She is now involved with the Why We Serve program, which allows servicemembers to tell their stories directly to the public. Potter states, "I want the American people not to walk in my combat boots, but to follow in the footsteps of the people whose lives touched mine."
