Nurse Anesthetist Careers on the Rise
The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists states that over 30,000 certified registered nurse anesthetists provide anesthesia services to 27 million patients each year. CRNAs are typically under the direct supervision of medical doctors. The program to become a CRNA is a 29-month program and the candidates have to be registered nurses with a bachelor of science in nursing with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Graduates also receive a master's degree in nursing. A CRNA can make around $100,000 to $150,000 a year. In exchange for the pay, being a CRNA is very intense. CRNAs work long hours and do on-call. While generally only 4 percent of nurses are male, 50 percent of CRNAs are men.
